VI. OCEANIA
PAPUA NEW GUINEA
Let’s now visit our final region: Oceania. The first country on our list is Papua New Guinea, which is home to World Heroes’ Mudman. Depicted as a shaman and warrior of his tribe, Mudman is easily the standout character of the World Heroes series due to his oversized mask that covers half of his body and his bizarre fighting style consisting of summoning spirits and mask-spinning attacks. One real-life reference I noticed about Mudman’s design is his blonde hair. Natural blonde hair is usually found among peoples of European origin, however natural blonde hair is also present among Melanesian peoples, who form the majority group in Papua New Guinea.
World Heroes: Mudman
AUSTRALIA
We now arrive at our final destination, the land down under: Australia. The country/continent is home to a number of memorable fighting characters as well. We have infamous gang leaders, Mr. Big and Kano; Raiden, a professional wrestler; Craig Marduk, a huge Vale Tudo fighter; Lord Raptor, a zombie rock star; the demon-possessed Zappa; Jeffry McWild, an Aboriginal Australian fisherman; and genetically-altered kangaroos, Roger and Roger Jr.
Tekken: Craig Marduk, Roger, Roger Jr.
Fatal Fury: Raiden
Art of Fighting: Mr. Big
Mortal Kombat: Kano
Virtua Fighter: Jeffry McWild
Darkstalkers: Lord Raptor
Guilty Gear: Zappa
Well, there it is! I hope you enjoyed our World Tour of Fighting Video Game Characters. I know this might be an incomplete list but these are the games that I have encountered so far. There might be newer and cooler characters developed in the future. I will surely make a review of them.
